Woodland (also called forest) gnomes, as their name suggests, live in the forest. They tend to look like the classic gnome you probably first think of - red hat, blue shirt, brown or dark green trousers, and a white beard. That is what the males of this variety look. The females wear a green hat (before marriage, with braids sticking out) or a dark grey hat (after marriage, with hair covered by scarf), a pale shirt with red decorations, and a green skirt.
They make their homes in tunnels beneath trees.
A normal woodland gnome breakfast consists of:
- Eggs, from small songbirds
- Mushrooms
- Butter
- Porridge
- Bread
- Ant eggs
- Jam
- Spice cake
Mostly, gnomes do not tend to have lunch, or if they do, it is a small affair of, perhaps, some bread & butter or jam. Their main meal, dinner, includes:
- Mushrooms
- Nuts (hazelnuts, walnuts, beechnuts, etc.)
- Applesauce
- Berries
- Beans
- A small potato
- Preserves
- Vetch (vicia sepium), a high-protein plant
